چکیده

A pleural effusion is defined as eosinophilic when eosinophils represent ≥ 10% of the total nucleated cell count, and accounts for approximately all effusions. The diagnostic significance has yet to be determined. Objective Methods: retrospective study was conducted on 65 patients with evaluate correlation between percentage present in fluid benign or malignant nature effusion. An original aspect current evaluation other variables association eosinophilia, particular lymphocytosis (≥ 50%), presence absence fever. Results: Data showed trend towards a decrease neoplastic incidence increasing percentages counts, although this not statistically significant. fever correlated low neoplasms (10% effusions fever) most significant variable (p=0.001), Negative Predictive Value disease 90%, sensitivity 92.6% specificity 47.4%. When evaluated together fever, increased their discriminating but lost specificity. (≥50% lymphocytes), associated lymphocytes were significantly Conclusions: that finding should considered an indicator benignity effusion; parameters can provide more precise prognostic indications; high eosinophils, would seem probability

INTRODUCTION Eosinophilic pleural effusion (EPE) has been associated with less risk for malignancy with a potential causal relationship with the presence of air and/or blood in the pleural space. However, these theories have fallen by the wayside in the light of recent publications. OBJECTIVES To determine the incidence and etiology of EPE and to observe whether the eosinophils in the pleural...
